Scholarships for Jewish Summer Camp and Israeli Experiences (local)
In the WNC Jewish Federation’s strategic plan and vision for future growth, the need for available scholarship dollars for local children and youth to be afforded the opportunity to attend a Jewish summer camp or experience Israel is a top priority.
This will be the 3rd year that WNC Jewish Federation will be able to offer scholarships to children in WNC.
Funding of Israeli Camp Counselors at Asheville JCC Camp Ruach (local)
For Jewish children, fostering an understanding and sense of connection to Israel is a critical component of the development of Jewish identity. For non-Jewish children, learning about Israel and its people in an apolitical, yet personal context fosters understanding and prevents misconceptions about this nation. Many Jewish children, and most non-Jewish children, will not visit Israel during their lifetime. If we want to foster a love of Israel from the earliest age, we must bring Israel to them.
Young schlichim bring hip, young energy to engage the camp in playful learning about Israel. They provide tangible access to understanding the Jewish/Israeli experience, and bring a sense of Israeli nationalism and pride to our camp culture. To be engaged by the people of Israel is to be engaged by the nation of Israel. Their imprint in our camp lingers after they are gone, as they remain in the hearts of the Camp Ruach kids and provide resources through their online communications with our staff.
